Eye Operation Camp at Madanapalli
In a major service activity, Bangalore Jayamahal lions joined lions of Madanapalli club to conduct a eye operation camp at Madanapalli. Over 546 persons were screened for eye defects and 126 cataract operations were carried out over two days. All those operated on were fitted with IOL lenses.

Installation of the Cabinet of Anand N.Suvarna
An event that the Lions of Jayamahal had been waiting for over 27 years was the
installation of the Cabinet of Anand N.Suvarna, the District Governor. This was
specially important, because the DG hails from our club and is a Charter Member.
It was but natural that the responsibility of organising this important function
should have been entrusted to our club, a senior club in the district, with a
unique record of having organised individually, in the past; Regional Meets many
times, Cabinet Installation, District Convention & even a Multiple District
Convention, all very successfully.
The Installation conducted in the spacious and comfortable venue- The Bunts
Sangha Auditorium- was on the evening of Saturday 28th July. Befitting the
occasion, the Chief Guest who installed the Cabinet officers, was Past
International President of LCI, Rohit Mehta. Among other important dignitaries
adorning the dais were PID P.S.Ranganathan and the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv
Gandhi University Lion Chandrashekar Shetty.
An unprecedented 1451 registered delegates, witnessed and enjoyed a function
organised with meticulous attention to detail. The presentation of the Cabinet
officers using hightech, was unique. Overall an event that will linger in the
memory.

Installing the New Team
Friday 22nd June, at 7.45 pm, was the function of installing the new team, who
lead us through 2001-02. Beautiful GARDEN HUT in Century Club, Cubbon Park, was
the venue where the new team was installed in office. Attended by over 180
lions, lionesses, and guests, indicating the popularity that any important
function of the club enjoys. Among the many dignitaries who attended, special
mention must be made of PDG Shivangi from Belgaum, who was the District Governor
in 1975-76, when our club was in its infancy. The installing officer Arvind
Despande from Belgaum, a PDG from neighbouring district 324D2, was accompanied
by his charming wife.
As is the tradition among the Jayamahal lions family, the Lioness office bearers were also installed simultaneously, and both Nagaraj and Girija
Rajaram, took office as President of the Lions and Lionesses respectively. The
function was very colourful and enjoyed by all present.

Blood Donation Camp At Seshadripuram College
Another major service activity was conducted. A blood donation camp was held at Seshadripuram college. At the camp which was inaugurated by Mr.T.V. Maruthi-President of the Seshadripuram Education Trust, and attended by DG Anand N. Suvarna as Chief Guest, 262 units of valuable blood were collected, by three blood bank teams from Lions Blood Bank, Victoria Hospital and NIMHANS Hospital. The camp received excellent publicity from the News Media and TV including Doordarshan, City Cable & E Tv.

Independence Day
Independence day was celebrated at our adopted village Dasarahalli. President Nagaraj hoisted the National flag. On the occasion 1300 note books were distributed to the school children of the village, along with teaching aids like map, etc. 120 saplings were planted in the school premises and the rest of the village.

The International Convention at Indianapolis
It had a special significance to the lions of Jayamahal, as a Charter Member Anand N.Suvarna was
installed as District Governor. His lionlady Devaki took active interest in pin
trading, besides attending the special seminar conducted for the spouse of the
District Governors.
Another member from the club who attended the convention was
P.S.Venkatachalam accompanied by his daughter Arathi.
Though the highlight of
the convention, the Parade, had to be cancelled prematurely due to inclement
weather, the convention was, as usual, very informative and enjoyable.
An
unusually large contingent from our district was present at the convention and
included the Ramachandrans, Krishnamurthys, Parameshwara Aradhyas & Premnath
from Bangalore West, a lion from Bangalore Sundarnagar- Krishnan & Past
International Director Ranganathan from Hoskote.
